By Road

From Kampala, it takes approximately 5-6 hours (305 km) to drive to Murchison Falls National Park headquarters via Masindi to Paraa area.
The most direct route to Murchison National Park from Kampala is through the southern gates (Kichumbanyobo and Masindi South Gate).
Alternatively, the northern gates from Kampala to Purongo or Takigate-Packwach are also a great option, although longer in distance, they take you straight to the most interesting sections of the park. As you enter the park, you see some animals Buffalos and Giraffes are just some of the animals sharing the plains.

By use of public transport by bus from Kampala to Masindi then you connect to Paraa headquarters in Murchison falls national park. you can also do self-drive or by a registered tour company that will plan your transport safari from Entebbe/ Kampala to Murchison falls national park.
The drive distance from Entebbe is approximately 305km and the drive time takes 5-6 hours to get to Murchison falls national park. the park has got several gates depending on the routes and direction you have taken.

By Air

It is possible to fly to the park by chartered aircraft or the daily scheduled flight from Kajjansi Airfield near Kampala. The lights are managed by Aero link Uganda and organises daily chartered flights to all the national parks in Uganda. From Kampala to Murchison falls, the flight takes about one hour.
The most convenient airfield to arrive at is Pakuba because of its proximity to the park headquarters and the main accommodations.
Alternatively, you can fly to Chobe or Bugundu and the driver will transfer to park headquarters for check in and since it will still be early, you will proceed with of the activities as per the activities.
Go off the beaten track, descend the rift valley escarpment for breath-taking views of Lake Albert, and enter the park via Bugungo gate (135km from Masindi).

Getting There & Out Through Several Gates Of Murchison Falls National Park

The park has several access gates from both the south and the northern as follows.
Northern Entrance Gates
From the Northern gate, you can access the park via Chobe, Wankwar, Mubako and Tangi gates north of the Nile. From Kampala/ Entebbe to Pakwach Road which crosses the Nile at Karuma Falls Bridge, the park distance from Kampala is about 260km. These gates are convenient for visitor travelling to/from Gulu town and from Kidepo Valley National Park.
Southern Entrance Gates
Kichumbanyobo Gate-to Masindi town and straight to paraa gate, the distance from Masindi town to this gate is 85Km, crossing through the Kaniyo Pabidi forest to Paara
Bugungu Gate – To Masindi is 135Km, passing through the Budongo forest, home of the chimpanzees. This route also takes you through the rift valley escarpment with impressive views of the Virunga mountains in DRC.
By Air
Domesticated flights from Entebbe international airport or Kajjansi airfield near Kampala to Chobe at the east, and Bugungu – near Murchison Falls – to the south and Pakuba Airfield, 19km from North Paraa.
